Match, 2015, by acclaimed artist Sarah Pickering, is a striking sight lighting up Stockton’s rich history.

As the winner of the 2nd REFOCUS biennial Castlegate mima Photography Prize, Pickering’s large-scale photographic work, which is over 38 metres wide, is sited on the prominent riverside location of Stockton-On-Tees’ Castlegate Shopping Centre.

The starting point for Match, 2015 by Sarah Pickering was the invention of the friction match by John Walker in 1827 and its coincidence with the production of the first photograph by Niepce also in 1827 – find out more about the the artwork and REFOCUS below…
